THE HARRIER: Vertical Take Off Jet is Coming to Florida Air Show
January 20, 2010

Punta Gorda, Florida - It’s a jet, but it can take off without a runway, and it can hover like a helicopter. The Harrier AV-8B will be making an appearance at Florida Air Shows 30th anniversary event in April for the first time in over ten years. The Harrier, originally a British designed attack aircraft, was modified by Boeing for the United States Marine Corp. The jet uses unique rotating thrust fans that lift the aircraft and then rotate to a normal flight configuration in a matter of seconds. The show’s Air Boss, Bob Hall, says, “This aircraft will give show attendees a unique and exciting performance that hasn’t been seen here for well over a decade. Plus, a second Harrier will be on static display on the tarmac for a closer look at this amazing aircraft.” The Harrier aircraft became the first USMC aircraft to be deployed in Gulf for Operation Desert in 1991. It has also seen action in Afghanistan and Iraq. For more information on this amazing aircraft click here

2010 Air Show Dates Announced, Celebrating 30 Years
December 7, 2009

Las Vegas, Nevada - The 2010 Florida International Air Show will trace the history of aviation with acts from many of the top aerobatic pilots in the world. That was the enthusiastic description given by Air Boss Bob Hall as he discussed some of the acts that will appear at the Florida Air Show's 30th Anniversary presentation on April 10th and 11th. Bob added that, "This year's show will be filled with amazing demonstrations in the air and on the ground. We'll see aircraft dating from before World War II to the present day tactical fighters."

Some of the acts scheduled to appear are:

The Aeroshell aerobatic team that flies the AT-6, a World War II North American Advanced Trainer; the aircraft that launched thousands of American and Canadian cadets on their flying careers.

Flying the MX2 Aerobatic Aircraft, Rob Holland brings an unrivaled performance in the sky over America's best air shows. Rob pushes the envelope of the most advanced aerobatic aircraft in the air show industry today. With a high energy mixture of both high and low altitude maneuvers, Rob is a World Champion aviator. He led Team USA to the GOLD MEDAL at the 8th Advanced World Aerobatic Championships in 2008.

Then we will switch to the ultimate in graceful and elegant flying. Manfred Radius soars into the air in a fully aerobatic sailplane - a pure one without an engine. His gentle performance is awesome, so graceful, so peaceful, a total feeling of freedom and relaxing. And the grand finale, the Inverted Ribbon Cut, is spectacular. This is not just another act; it's pure flying at its best.

One of the most unusual performances will come from the World War II Aerial Demonstration Team. The team takes the crowd back in time and shows what it was like during that time of strife.

Hall added; he is also working on a schedule that would bring additional high performance military aircraft to the show. That schedule will be released at a later date.

"This year as a result of our reputation of putting on outstanding air shows, the Florida International Air Show has been named one of the top 20 events in the Southeastern United States by the Southeast Tourism society".
