The Harrier: Vertical Take Off Jet is Coming to Florida Air Show
It′s a jet, but it can take off without a runway, and it can hover like a helicopter. The Harrier AV-8B will be making an appearance at Florida Air Shows 30th anniversary event in April for the first time in over ten years. The Harrier, originally a British designed attack aircraft, was modified by Boeing for the United States Marine Corp. The jet uses unique rotating thrust fans that lift the aircraft and then rotate to a normal flight configuration in a matter of seconds. The show′s Air Boss, Bob Hall, says, "This aircraft will give show attendees a unique and exciting performance that hasn′t been seen here for well over a decade. Plus, a second Harrier will be on static display on the tarmac for a closer look at this amazing aircraft." The Harrier aircraft became the first USMC aircraft to be deployed in Gulf for Operation Desert in 1991. It has also seen action in Afghanistan and Iraq.
